After a few beers in Windsor I was taken by the entry for the Brook Brothers in my book of fashion, who among many things introduced the pink cotton button-down shirt for women in 1949 which was an adaptation of the polo shirts. Initially i was going to draw a bathing suit as worn in the 1800's, which was a two part garment, a long shirt top that went way below the waist and a pair of trousers, usually made of wool, just what you want to wear at the seaside, but then i got to the bikini section, and then to the bit on the Brook Brothers. One of the things trhat appeals to me about all this is all the wonderous opportunities to draw stuff. And once you get into it, the possibilities are endless. Like I was toying with the idea of doing fur coats and stuff, and just browsing through my book i'm just amazed at how much there is, and with every little drawing I develop another little insight into the world of fashion, like a tool, or a structured discipline. Like the strong difference between formal wear, casual and evening wear, the periods and shifts in vogue. Its all very exciting.
